"Simple Tendus"? Yeah, Right! (dodgy photos included) …

Tendus. My books say “Simple Tendus” or “Tendu Simples” and I’m all like, What? There ain’t nothin’ simple about that!

Well, okay, maybe it’s simple to the amazing ballerinas out there who could probably tendu while in a coma and are doing much more complex tendus than I could even dream of, but they aren’t so simple when you’re a beginner AND you’re trying to do them properly.

Always trying to lead with my heel. My heel can’t literally move in front of my toes when moving forward, of course, but I am trying to lead the movement with my heel. If that makes sense? For example, it feels like my heel is the first thing to move.

When tenduing to the back I lead the movement with my toes.

Here is me trying to work my point correctly in my tendus moving forward. You can see that my right hip is more flexible than my left. I lose the heel lead halfway through the left tendu. I am happy that I am trying for the correct feeling and position, though.

This was a video that I took snap shots from. It’s pretty dodgy imagery … sorry!

  1. Looks gorgeous! I finally see your posts again!! I clicked unfollow and then follow and now I see everything again… Weird huh?
But your tendus look great! Of course you lose a bit of turnout or ‘heel leading’ when you get to the end of your tendu 🙂 Nothing to worry about, they look nice!

    1. I think a few people had that problem for a while. It is weird. Thanks for the compliment on the tendus! I keep trying.

    1. Thank you. I am learning more about foot exercises. Got a theraband yesterday which I’m excited about. And have been reading some good article and watching some good videos.

I have some connective tissue problems which mean I need to be careful with stretches. Just makes everything happen slower. But I am loving my goals and mini goals, like foot strengthening.

  2. You look wonderful in tendu. Your legs and feet are so nice, BB. I find tendu very difficult. My feet are bad to begin with, flat and they want to sickle. Yours look great, and it helps me to keep going. I use my Theraband sometimes every day, sometimes every other day. I think it has helped!

    1. Thanks, TDR! It’s encouraging to hear things like that. Does your teacher have exercises for your feet muscles? I have read you can get some pull up with flat feet using exercises to work the correct muscles.

I’m using the theraband a little each day. Looking forward to seeing if I get some improvement in strength.

      1. I found some myself online. The bottom line is you cannot create an arch when you have none. However. I could SWEAT that since I have been doing “The Bridge” with my feet, they have gotten better. That and several releve’s each day….but I have to make sure my heels are forward. Anyway, good for you. I think you look wonderful!

  3. You really do have nice feet and legs, BB! All you need to do now is sculpt them. I wouldn’t focus quite so much on stretching them (they are naturally beautiful and their flexibility will develop as you continue practicing), but using a theraband and doing several releves in first position every day- even when you don’t have class- will make all the difference! Good for your for trying to do tendus so properly. They are not simple at all! But with time, I promise they will get easier. Of course then you’ll be battling the next step, and the next…it never ends! Enjoy 🙂

    1. Thanks for sharing your advice, Kirsten! What a great comment.

Can I ask what you mean by not stretching them so much? I’m not sure in what way you think I shouldn’t stretch so much? But I love that you’ve made a suggestion, so I really want to understand it clearly.

I love the theraband and doing reléves with it, but I haven’t tried doing them in first. I will try that!

I’m just focused on doing things correctly and healthily. No point stuffing my body up!

      Thanks for chiming in!
